Haidee was Choctaw Citizen by Intermarriage.

Haidee was born 28 Sep 1868 in Arkansas, the daughter of Benton Nesmith and Elizabeth Jane Bond. Haidee passed away 1 Mar 1905 in Ardmore, Pickens, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory.[2] She is buried at the Hickory Cemetery, Hickory, Murray County, Oklahoma.[3]

R. P. Cotten married Haidee Nesmith on 17 February 1897 at Ardmore, Pickens, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, United States.[4]

Haidee Cotten made application to the Dawes Commission for a land allotment from the Choctaw Nation. An examination by the Commission; In the matter of application of Haidee Cotten for enrollment as an Intermarried citizen of the Choctaw Nation was conducted on 20 November 1902.[5] The decision of the Commission as to being a Choctaw by Intermarriage on 15 October 1904 approved the enrollment and Haidee Cotten was recognized as a citizen of the Choctaw Nation.[6] Intermarried Choctaw or Chickasaw Citizen was a person that lived in the Choctaw or Chickasaw Nation and married a citizen of Choctaw or Chickasaw blood. They also had married under Choctaw or Chickasaw license or had been married prior to the requirement of having a Choctaw or Chickasaw license. An Intermarried Citizen was recognized by the Dawes Commission for eligibility of land allotments. The Examination by the Commission generally provides names, dates of marriage, where and who performed the marriage.

On 23 March 1905, Rufus P. Cotten was appointed Administrator for the estate of Haidee Cotten. [7][8][9]
